Over the years Bridgend Male Choir has had the privilege of sharing the concert platform with both local and international choirs, musicians, singers and presenters including a few world famous artists.

(2016) Stewart Roberts

was born in Pembrokeshire, and when the family moved to the Rhondda, was educated at Treorchy Comprehensive School and the University of Wales in Cardiff, where he studied piano with Richard McMahon and Caroline Rae. In 1995 he graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree, and was awarded the Eleanor Amy Bowen Scholarship which enabled him to pursue his Master’s Degree. Stewart is an accomplished cellist and an exceptional solo pianist. He has accompanied many of Wales’ distinguished vocalists, including Rhys Meirion, Rebecca Evans, Shân Cothi, Wynne Evans and Anthony Stuart Lloyd, and in 2007 he accompanied Hayley Westenra in concert at St David’s Hall. Stewart’s passion for male choral singing was ignited when he was appointed Accompanist to Côr Meibion Morlais at the age of sixteen and was Musical Director of Dowlais Male Choir 2000-2007. He became the Musical Director of Pendyrus' Male Choir’s in 2009

(2016) St Peter’s Male Voice Choir, Drogheda

was founded in 1956 and has earned national and international recognition as Ireland's leading male voice choir. Conducted by Edward Holly as Musical Director, since 1996, it has developed a remarkable reputation for quality interpretations of a wide range of choral music and is widely renowned for innovative and highly entertaining concerts that draw not only on a wonderful choral tone but also on its solo performers. In 1999, the choir became the only male voice choir to be awarded Irish Choir of the Year and has won First Prize at every major male voice choral festival in Ireland, including the Cork International and Sligo International Choral Festivals. St. Peter's Male Voice Choir has also represented Ireland twice at the prestigious Llangollen International Eisteddfod, Wales. In 2003, it was Ireland's sole representative at the inaugural Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival and was the first Irish choir to win the North Wales International Choral Festival. In 2006, the choir celebrated its 50th Anniversary by giving a Sacred Music Recital at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York City, to a capacity audience and made history when it became the first Irish choir to give a concert in the United Nations Building, Manhattan, USA.

(2016) Four Lanes Male Choir

from Four Lanes, Redruth, Cornwall are recognised as having a very fine reputation for male voice singing. With over 60 singers they give concerts throughout Cornwall and beyond, often for charitable organisations and take part in choir competitions and festivals. The choir was formed in 1944 to welcome home troops from the Second World War. The choir won many competitions including the Camborne Music Festival on 12 occasions and the prestigious Elgar Festival in Worcester Cathedral, the best Cornish and best British choir at the 2009 International Male Voice Choir Festival and at the 2011 festival, the choir took 2nd place in the British choir section and again won the award for best Cornish choir. In recent years, under Musical Director Tim Hosken, the choir took two top prizes at Cornwall Music Festival, the Choral Championship Edgar Kessell Gold Award and the Holman Cup for the best male choir over 30 singers.

(2016) Nathan Isaac

born 1999, as a 10 year old a pupil at Ysgol Cynwyd Sant in Maesteg, scooped second place in the woodwind category at the Urdd Eisteddford. He also plays the harp, piano and cello, and appeared live on S4C. His debut with the Choir led to a standing ovation. Nathan has been accepted to continue his studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

(2016) Eos

comprising Bethan Thomas (soprano) and Meinir Davies (contralto) and Angharad Edwards. The two singers first met as members of Dawnswyr Penyfai back in 2005 and were both choral singers from a young age. They have, between them, sung with a number of celebrated choirs including Maesteg Childrens Choir, Cardiff University Chamber Choir, The National Youth Choir of Wales and Noteworthy Mixed Choir. They first began performing together singing a capella folk duets during dance gigs and festivals, both at home and abroad. Angharad Edwards is a freelance harpist who has worked with many prestigious musicians such as Catrin Finch and Sir Karl Jenkins. A graduate of The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama joined Dawnswyr Penyfai’s band of musicians and the three girls soon realised the potential of their musical blend. Their first performance as a trio was at the Tabernacle Christmas Eve carol service last year and they have since performed with Porthcawl Choral Society, Porthcawl Male Voice Choir, Sounds Familiar Mixed Choir and for a remembrance service in 2006 for Merlin Maddock with the Bridgend Male Choir in the company of BBC news presenter Huw Edwards.

(2016) Angharad Morgan

first appeared with the the Choir at thier Annual Choir Concert more than 10 years ago. Angharad had won the Russell Sheppard Memorial Scholarship and, as was tradition, she was invited to appear with the Choir. Since graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Angharad has enjoyed great success with her musical career. She completed her studies with international tenor, Dennis O’Neill and soprano, Nuccia Focile, as well as having the privilege of being tutored by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. In 2012, Angharad made her professional solo operatic debut at the Wexford Festival in Ireland singing Second Woman in Delius’ A Village Romeo and Juliet and Peasant Farmer in Chabrier’s Le roi malgré lui for Wexford Festival Opera. The winner of many awards, Angharad has gone on to pursue a professional operatic solo career.

has around 40 members who come mainly from the Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells area.

(2015/16) Vocelle

is a vibrant group of women who love to sing and make music to an exceptional standard. Their repertoire is exceptionally varied and includes songs from every genre of music – classics, folk and jazz to name but a few. They are very proud of their Welsh heritage and love to sing traditional and contemporary Welsh songs and are also adept at singing in many other languages

(2015) Rhondda’s Parc & Dare Brass Band

Formed in 1893, the band takes its name from the two collieries formerly located in Cwmparc, Rhondda. Though the Parc & Dare collieries are no longer with us their name lives on thanks to the success of the Parc & Dare Band, which remains one of the premier bands of Wales and boasts lots of competitive successes, a number in recent years.

(2015) Ellen Williams

Eisteddfod winning soprano, Ellen graduated with a Masters in Performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015. Ellen has performed in theatres and concert venues across the UK and internationally. After a performance with Mark Llywelyn Evans and Rob Brydon at the Lyric Theatre Carmarthen, Ellen was invited to give a recital to the Washington DC Welsh Society, and has since performed in venues such as Cadogan Hall, Royal Concert Hall Glasgow, Bridgewater Hall, Venue Cymru and the Wales Millennium Centre, supporting Rhydian Roberts on tour. Ellen has shared the concert stage with Wynne Evans and Catrin Finch, and sang the part of The Minstrel in the Welsh premier of Karl Jenkins’ The Bards of Wales at The National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2012, conducted by the composer himself and sharing the platform with Dennis O’Neil and Rebecca Evans. The National Eisteddfod of Wales has been a rewarding platform for Ellen, winning the Oratorio under 25 competition for three consecutive years, and in 2015 Ellen released her debut EP, Skylark, on the Welsh Label Sain.
