ST. ASAPH CATHEDRAL CONCERT

Monday 08 June 2015

Daily Post, North Wales reports today.................

Two of Wales’ largest male voice choirs are to join forces in a special concert to mark the 20th Anniversary of a hospice.   The almost 100 strong, Bridgend Male Choir will sing alongside the Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir at St Asaph Cathedral on June 20.   The concert promises to be a fabulous celebratory concert of musical entertainment to mark the 20th Anniversary of St. Asaph-based St Kentigern Hospice.

The Bridgend Male Choir have won many great awards since they were formed 55 years ago. Last year the choir won the prestigious Male Voice Choir competition at Llangollen International Eisteddfod, only the second South Wales choir to do so in the Eisteddfod’s proud 67 year history.

Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir are a choir of great acclaim having gained many prizes over the years including first prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales on seven occasions.   In January 2015 the choir welcomed their new musical director, Ann Atkinson. Ann is a renowned; well respected conductor and fine musician.

Lindsey Thomas, Community Fundraiser, St. Kentigern Hospice said: “Both Bridgend and Trelawnyd Male Voice Choirs are continued supporters of the hospice and have many accolades after their names, we are thrilled to have their company to join our fundraising during our celebratory year.”

St. Kentigern Hospice is based in St. Asaph and provides specialist palliative care services, completely free of charge, for adults across North east Wales.  Services include an eight patient ward, physiotherapy, day care unit for up to 15 patients, an outpatient clinic, occupational therapy, bereavement support and complimentary therapies.   “In 2015 it will cost more than £1.4 million to run the Hospice which equates to more than £3800 per day. Just 18% of this will come from the Local Health Board, it is only enough funding to support the Hospice for 66 days.   “The Hospice therefore greatly relies upon on the generosity of the communities it serves in North East Wales to raise the additional funding for the remaining 299 days of the year,” added Lindsey.

The concert takes place on Saturday, June 20 at 7.30pm Tickets are priced at £8 each (£7 concessions) and are available from the fundraising office at St Kentigern Hospice on 01745 536022.
